832: Caught Up in ‘The Rap-ture’

The Rap-Ture CD Cover

The world of hip hop has evolved and devolved, transcended and transcended for the last thirty years, with the genre exposing the world to a new means of communicating via music. Rap music started out as a political statement and one group has gotten back to the kind of thought provoking lyrics that demonstrate that it can still resonate and connect with listeners.

Hailing from Oklahoma City, the rap group 832 consists of brothers Nawlege 405 and Solomis, a duo that has taken it upon themselves to go beyond the club banger and deliver an album that plays like a report on the state of affairs in the world today. The album walks the fine line between humanity and spirituality, bringing to the forefront the issues that the everyday person faces daily. Deep, introspective, and speaking on current times, 832 has released an album of edu-tainment that delivers on all fronts.

By tackling subject matter that many bands are hesitant to address, 832 takes their fans on a journey that poses the hard questions, while simultaneously delivering a message of promise that lies in all of us. With mini-skits included between full songs, 832 has taken a page from the 90s, adding an added layer of cohesion throughout. What is abundantly clear is that this is an act unafraid of riffling while rifling, and along with their precision lyrics are beats that will keep hardcore fans pleased and certain to attract new followers. Standout tracks on the album include ‘Any Way You Can’ and ‘The World Is Yours’. With this effort, it is clear that 832 has matured as a group and have defiantly produced music that triumphs without conforming to the current trends in hip hop. The Rap-ture  is an artistic step in the right direction.
