B.B. King: A True Artisan of the Stage It’s not like we did not see this coming… For as soon as we heard that the perennial King of Blues, B.B. King, was hospitalized and unable to perform, we knew that his decades long career had come to an end. No matter how hard we wanted it not to be. We knew it, felt it, in our very being, in every fiber of our being. And as any true artist knows, performing IS life. In a career that spanned our mother’s mother’s mother’s youth, Riley B. King was a musical genius whose influence encompassed several genres from blues to R&B to rock. Any artist that has come since would be lying if they say they were not influenced by him. If they claim to not have been, the reason is simple: They don’t know their history. Armed with his lady guitar-in-waiting Lucille, B.B. King worked with performers that have since become worldwide sensations in their own right. For over sixty years, King tirelessly toured as other performers embraced technology and he continued to hold the torch of live performance. With more than 15,000 live shows to his credit around the world, there is no corner of the earth that has not bared witness to his sheer artistry, connection with fans, and the ability to resonate even in the twilight years of his life. Farewell, Mr. King. The thrill is not gone. The thrill has only transcended.
