Johan Rodrigues ‘Um’ travels across the sonic landscapes of alternative rock, pop, and even new wave 80s music that will leave the casual listener intrigued and more than pleasantly surprised. In the current musical landscape where finding anything fresh and new is nearly impossible, this is a welcome change of pace from the everyday offerings.

For those that like catchy melodies that will stay in their ears well after you turn off the music, ‘So Is Love’, the opening track, is definitely one that remain on the sense. A chorus like that is just itching to be featured on the radio and it probably will. Another track, ‘Bad Girl’, is another promising effort that is simply an enjoyable thrill-ride. But the best track of the five offered is undoubtedly ‘First Song’, the last track on the EP. For this track alone, it is worth getting to the end of the track to hear it. You will press repeat.

Born in Stockholm, Johan Rodrigues was reared in Madeira, Portugal. It is on this Mediterranean island where the singer honed his artistic talents, learning the guitar and laying the groundwork for his songwriting ability.  In addition to the guitar, he picked up the drums and bass, also learning how to arrange his own creations for complete artistic freedom. Upon meeting producer Bjorn Oqvist, his early songs led to the production of ‘Um’, which was produced in Madeira, Lisbon, and Stockholm, uniting all of most influential cities of his life. Already, the industry has taken note of Rodrigues, who was awarded the Novos Talentos FNAC Coimbra award in 2009. He has also toured twice in Portugal as well as a small solo tour in Belgium, which has only helped to increase his name in the mainstream musical community.

With the release of ‘Um’, this definitely the beginning of a journey that many will be eager to take a ride on. Check out the video and find out about this international artist now.
