Tyrese: Black Rose Debuts on Billboard at #1

In a move that is sure to set poptrixxx off in the most unsettling of ways, Billboard has a new #1 album and the way in which it was achieved will have record executives scratching their heads and firing their current publicity machine.

Tyrese, known more for the Fast & Furious franchise than as a singer these days, vowed to do whatever it took to get his new album, Black Rose, into the #1 position on Billboard for its debut and he did just that. He ramped up attention for the release by performing on public transit, featuring a stint at a Brooklyn station. In a video he posted, he had this to say….

“Excuse me, everybody. My name is Tyrese . . . I left all of the major record labels so that I can do my thing as an independent artist and I’m on the train,” he told riders. “I’m grass-roots . . . I’m a street performer.”

And before those record executives attempt to adopt this model for their artists, we must remind them: Tyrese can actually sing, whereas most of these current crop of poptrixxx can’t hold two notes together.
