It’s been over thirty years ago since The Miss America Organization ‘Bye, Felica’ed’ the first African-American winner, but in a reversal of stances that can only be seen as a sign of victory for her camp, Vanessa Williams has been lured back to the very event that made her a household name.

She may have resigned from the title in 1984 amid the publishing of nude photographs that surfaced years after she took them, but make no mistake that Vanessa Williams is hands down the most famous Miss America ever. Those that counted her out thirty years ago are now eating their words – including the organization itself, which has allegedly been trying to get Williams back on their main stage for well over a decade. The Current CEO of the Miss America Organization, Sam Haskell, had this to say about Williams and her legacy…

“Vanessa’s career speaks for itself, with all the success that she has had. When I became chairman of Miss America, one of the first calls I made was to Vanessa, to try to find a way to get her to come back. Her return as a huge success is a way for us all to move forward and put the past behind us. It’s truly an honor to welcome her back to the Miss America Pageant.”

Since returning the crowd, Vanessa Williams has had a successful career in Hollywood spanning television, film, music, and Broadway. Williams will join the Miss America pageant as the head judge alongside hosts Chris Harrison and Brooke-Charvet. Now tell us…
