Her real name was Joanie Laurer, but for millions of fans from the World Wrestling Entertainment, she will forever be known simply as Chyna. The superstar wrestler passed away tragically on Wednesday. A statement was made via her Twitter account surround her death:
“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer, AKA Chyna, the 9th Wonder of the World has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.”
Laurer was found dead in her Redondo Beach home in the afternoon and as of right now, no cause of death has been released.
As Chyna, she climbed the ranks of the WWE nearly twenty years ago, being called the ‘9th Wonder of the World’, winning the WWF Intercontinental Championship twice, and once the WWF Women’s Championship. She then parlayed that success into a reality star, appearing on The Surreal Life and other shows.
Stephanie McMahon reacted on her Twitter account as well with…
“She was truly a pioneer in our industry and she will be missed #RIPChyna.”
Chyna was 45 years old.
