Star Trek Returning to Small Screen in a Big Way

As the current feature franchise continues to do stellar box office, there are now plans underway to bring the classic sci-fi world back to the small screen featuring new characters and dimensions. In a statement from CBS President David Stapf:

“There is no better time to give Star Trek fans a new series than on the heels of the original show’s 50th anniversary celebration. Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.”

CBS Television Studios has already tried writers for the upcoming show scheduled for 2016, with plans for distribution through CBS Studios International. There have long been talks about rebooting the lucrative franchise and now comes the perfect timing with plans to kickstart their CBS All Access streaming services.

With the Star Trek franchise celebrating 50 years next year, it is only fitting that it go boldly where it has never gone before in the new digital age.
